You can use this free tool from Adwords https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal to help you out.
When you get to the site you'll see Results are tailored to English, United States Edit
1. Click Edit and choose "All countries and territories" (Well, unless you're from another country)
2. Enter the keyword you are thinking about or is pertinent to your niche
3. Click off the "synonyms" box and get rid of that
4. Type the characters you see in the box below
5. Click "Get keywords ideas"
6. You'll be taken to a page where you can see the demand and monetization of the keyword you entered.
7. Look over on the right hand side and change Match Type from the drop down menu to "Exact"
8. Now go to the last column "Global Monthly Search Volume" It will sort from highest to lowest (you may have to click twice if it inverts from lowest to highest.)
9. Go up to the "Choose columns to Display" drop down menu and choose "Show estimated Average CPC" It will show the estimated average cost for those keywords.
10. Now you can sort that column, too, by clicking it. Now you'll know if you are using a hot keyword that pays well or one that does not generate much interest.
You can now create pages around words with high demand or low demand with high profitability. Keep in mind, you want to create pages of relevant, original content that gives your readers valuable information. You cannot "spam" keywords in a thrown-together article/page and expect Google to index it. The content surrounding the keywords you choose have to give the visitor something of value. It is hard work. You will be writing for two audiences, the search engines and your human visitors. Learning solid SEO skills will be just as crucial as your expressive skills.
